EDITORIAL - ‘More to housing concerns than just nimbyism’
Many residents in Eye are concerned about the potential impacts that 290 extra homes will have on the town.
It’s not hard to understand why, but often it is not the fact that there are going to be extra homes that bothers people, but the lack of trust they have that the authorities will secure the extra infrastructure needed to cope with the housing.
And people are right to question this, and dig their heels in until answers are found.
For more than ten years Diss Health Centre, which is made up of two surgeries, has been crying out for an extension.
In that same period hundreds of homes have been added to Diss alone, not to mention piecemeal expansions in the surrounding villages.
The health centre’s calls have not been answered.
You will never please everybody when it comes to building new homes, but people want assurances about how the supporting infrastructure will be delivered, by whom, and with what money.
Towns like Eye are great places to live. People simply want them to stay that way.
