Nepal has a GDP of about 20 billion US dollars and the earthquake that hit there at the end of last month is estimated to cost from a quarter to a half of that - possibly even more.
The country is simply not equipped to deal with a disaster of this magnitude. It is going to need help from the international community.
Diss and its surrounds have once again stepped in to do its bit. Our local Rotary Clubs do us proud. They know exactly how to target the donations given by our community because they’ve helped in many disasters all over the world before.
The ShelterBox scheme that they support will help house the estimated 2.8 million displaced people.
South Norfolk Youth Symphonic Band’s emergency concert and the other small informal sales arranged locally says that we are prepared to help those most in need.
If you are raising money for Nepal, please contact us, and we will hopefully drive a few more people to your event.
