Suffolk pop star Ed Sheeran apologises for gatecrashing Ruben Amorim’s first post-match interview after Ipswich Town draw with Manchester United

Suffolk pop star Ed Sheeran has issued an apology for gatecrashing Ruben Amorim’s first post-match interview as Manchester United manager after drawing 1-1 with Ipswich Town.

The Framlingham-based singer, who is a minority shareholder in Town, made a surprise appearance on the Sky Sports panel following the Premier League fixture at Portman Road.

Sky Sports presenter Kelly Cates alongside former Blues manager Roy Keane, Izzy Christiansen and Jamie Redknapp were speaking with the Red Devils boss when Sheeran walked into the interview.

Cates said: "Ed Sheeran has come to join us. Ed, we're just chatting to Ruben Amorim who may not want to talk to an Ipswich fan."

The musician said: "I love it. I love being back in the Premier League."

The presenter then said: "We're really glad to hear from you," before Redknapp said to Sheeran: "You gonna come and say hello in a minute?"

Sheeran then walked out of the shot before the interview continued.

Following the interview, United fans did not agree with Sheeran’s actions.

One supporter said: “Disrespectful to the gaffer. Mid way through interviewing him for the first time.”

Another said: "Don't care who he is, but think this was so rude and disrespectful."

In response to the reaction on social media, Sheeran said on Instagram stories today: “Apologies if I offended Amorim yesterday, didn’t actually realise he was being interviewed at the time, was popping to say hi and bye to Jamie.

“Obviously feel a bit of a b*****d but life goes on.

“Great game though, congrats on all involved.”
