Norfolk County Council has announced £30,000 of new drainage works will be carried out on Park Road in Diss.

The council says work will begin "on or soon after" Tuesday August 28 to improve the carriageway drainage system on the pedestrian crossing.

The works will take about eight days to complete, subject to suitable weather conditions.

The drainage works will be carried out in the evening between 19:00 to 23:00 to reduce the impact on the road network, the council says.

"However, there is the possibility that works may overrun due to any unforeseen circumstances but all efforts will be made to conclude each night by 23:00," said a spokesman.

"This work is being carried out in response to surface water flooding issues in the area and will see a drainage system installed to reduce the likelihood of this happening again in the future.

"These works will require a road closure on Mere Street at the junction to Park Road."

A diversion route will be sign posted during the works via Mere Street, Chapel Street, Church Street, Frenze Road, Skeleton Road and Victoria Road.

This will be in place for the duration of the work.

In addition, two way traffic will temporarily be allowed on Chapel Street via two way lights during the duration of works, as part of the diversion.

To control the traffic on Park Road, temporary three way lights will also be installed at the Morrison’s roundabout.

"The county council thanks people for their patience while this drainage improvement work is carried out," the spokesman added.

The work will be carried out by Norfolk County Council’s Community and Environmental Services Department and their contractors.
