Lilys in Diss takes home double win at 2021 Salon Awards
A Diss salon has been crowed the best in Norfolk in a double win at a prestigious industry awards ceremony.
Lilys in Victoria Road – named using owner Alice Harvey’s middle name – beat more than 90 finalists at a ceremony for the 2021 Salon Awards in London at the end of November.
Opened by Mrs Harvey and husband Callum in 2011, the award was the icing on the cake for a venture celebrating 10 years in business.
“It is amazing,” said Mrs Harvey. “We have had such a hard year, as everyone has, and were delighted to just get to the final, to be honest.
“It is such an achievement as our industry has really struggled over the past couple of years.
“We had to close for one of the longest times during Covid, so it was really nice to end the year with this.”
Not only did the salon win an award, but so did Mrs Harvey, scooping Creative Image of the Year after judges saw a photograph of her work.
Mrs Harvey said winning the two categories they had entered and looking back over the last 10 years – when she first opened at the age of 18 – had really shown her how far the business had come in that time.
She said: “Our industry is filled with really good hairdressers and people who have got a lot of experience, so when you are 18 you have to fight against that to prove yourself.
“It was really hard at first and to get here with 10 years under our belts, as well as the awards, solidifies what we have done over the last decade.”
Mrs Harvey said the salon’s focus on delivering a one-to-one approach had helped it to stand out from the crowd.
She said: “It is more common place now but that approach really appeals to our type of client, who want that personalised service.
“We are extremely grateful to our amazing client base. A lot of our clients have been coming to us for the duration of the ten years.
“To have people support you for that long is great as there are a lot of hairdressers in the area that are also really good, so thank you to them and my brilliant team – we could not have done this without them.”
