Diss walking football league gets under way

A football coach has set up a walking football league for people in Diss and the wider area.

People do not have to be that fit or experienced at playing football to join.

Steven Hicklin said the venture is for anyone aged over 18 who would like to get fit and have fun at the same time.

The 31-year-old said: “I’ve seen that people are doing a weight loss football league in Norwich, which is a great idea and inspired me to set up something anyone could join. I wanted to get more adults active.”

As it is walking football, people do not have to be that fit or experienced at playing football.

The league, which currently has 30 members, welcomes both men and women, with games taking place at Diss Town FC’s all-weather pitch on Mondays, from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.

All matches will be overseen by at least one FA qualified coach. Fixtures will be split between a 10-week league season and a four-week cup tournament.

The league kicks off in two to three weeks and will finish in May, with an end-of-season presentation.

Anyone interested in joining should contact Steven on 07851734739 or by emailing steven.hicklin@icloud.com.
