Diss Town Council welcomes new councillor
Diss Town Council has welcomed a new councillor.
Town councillors voted to elect Kayt Button at a recent full council meeting.
Mrs Button is already a familiar face in the area as an organiser of DissFest, as well as operations manager at Unit Twenty Three in Diss.
“Diss is a great place to be,” said Kayt, 44.
“I am quite excited to join the town council as it will be nice to understand more about how decisions are made and worked through.”
Mrs Button has studied at the University of East Anglia and Cambridge University.
She achieved a PhD after studying the environmental history of the national grid.
She says her experience as a geodemographic consultant for local government bodies will help with forward-thinking.
“I have a real academic and practical interest in infrastructure,” she said.
“I’ve got a pretty good idea what I have let myself in for – it will be nice to work for a local council as a councillor, rather as a consultant.
“I’ll endeavour to help more people of Diss and the surrounding area feel represented.
“Diss is a very wide community; there are some people in very privileged positions and some in difficult and dire circumstances. It’s difficult for anybody, a council or otherwise, to please all of those people all of the time.
“But ensuring you meet the widest majority of people is really important.”
