Diss did not have a boardwalk when John and Margaret Brawn married on September 22, 1958.

But the Mere’s new addition provided a permanent way to commemorate their diamond anniversary.

The Brawn’s granddaughter, Victoria Clements, surprised the pair with a plaque on the boardwalk’s terrace, after winning it in a Facebook competition run by the Heritage Triangle Trust.

More than 50 entrants had to like, share and comment on the Facebook page to be in for the chance to win the plaque, worth £250.

Mr and Mrs Brawn, who have lived in Diss since 1980, were presented with the commemorative plaque on Friday.

Delighted with the plaque, Margaret joked: “They say being married for 60 years is like three life sentences, don’t they?

“But it doesn’t feel like that. Well, not often.”
