Diss students raise nearly £1,000 with charity auction

Diss Sixth Form students who organised a charity auction, which included a signed Ed Sheeran CD and a Scandinavian bread making workshop voucher, have raised £985.

Cait Croft, Lucie O’Brien and Zeyno Oguz, who are BTEC Business students, set up the event for East Anglian Children’s Hospices (EACH) and Brain Tumour Research UK.

The original plan for the auction, that took place on Monday, was to hold it in person but with recent surges in cases, it was decided to do the event online.

Sam Budds, who teaches business at the Walcot Road site, said: “The amount the student raised is fantastic - they originally set £900 as their target as that is what the event raised in 2019. To have exceeded this target is a magnificent result.

“Diss Sixth Form students have been holding an annual charity week for more than 15 years. The BTEC students also have to run real events as part of their final coursework.”

The trio approached town businesses for donation items including Fredericks Fine Foods, Hilary and Alice, Diss Publishing and Brownie and the Bean bakery.

Mrs Budds said: “The students and I would like to thank everyone who has supported this event, particularly the small independent businesses of Diss who have given so generously.”
