Diss salon is a cut above after scooping award
A hair salon from Diss has proved it is a cut above the rest after scooping an award at one of the industry’s most prestigious events.
VAE Hair, based in St Nicholas Street and are celebrating their fourth year in the town this month, won the L’Oréal Colour Trophy Eastern Award 2016 at the event, held at the O2 Intercontinental Hotel, London.
More than 1,500 of the hairdressing industries most acclaimed and famous figures filled the venue last month, receiving the accolade from TV and radio presenter Nick Grimshaw and judge Adam Reed, from Percy and Reed.
Their journey to the success started back in January, entering a photographic image in the first round of the competition among 1,000 entries, and were successful, securing a place in round two, live regional finals held in nine locations across the UK.
Competing against 35 other teams in the Eastern region, they won one of only four places in the grand final.
Deputy manager, team leader and stylist Vicki Parker of Flordon, told the Diss Express: “It was such an achievement to be able to win in the grand final.
“It is the fourth time we have entered and made the grand final, and it is the first time we have been the regional winner.
“It is really exciting to be the winner.
“Some salons have entered for years and have never got through any of the rounds, but the fact we are winners is amazing.”
The brief was to create a “beautiful, well-executed colour cut style,” as part of a look, including hair, make-up and outfit.
She added: “I just think what we offer is a really good service.
“Everyone here has a lot of good expertise in things all across the board, and we make people comfortable when they come in.
“We are good at what we do, and we have a lot of external and in-house training so we are always trying to stay in the know and what is going on in the fashion industry.”
