Diss rail users are to benefit from improved carriages after the halfway stage on a £12 million project was reached.

As part of the Norwich to London route, which passes through Diss, 61 of the 118 Mk III carriages have been improved, and feature new LED lighting, plug points, new tables and seats, and upgraded, environmentally-friendly, controlled emission toilets with new floors and new taps. The improvements also includes trains on routes from Ipswich and Colchester to the capital.

Jamie Burles, Abellio Greater Anglia’s Managing Director, said: “This £12 million programme illustrates our commitment to raise service standards on the Norwich to London mainline route.

“We are determined to provide customers and communities across our network with higher quality services and this project is a major part of a wider investment of over £40 million in customer-focused improvements throughout our current short franchise, which runs from July 2014 to October 2016.”
