Diss Carnival 2023 has been announced with a special movie theme
The 2023 edition of Diss Carnival, complete with a special theme, has officially been announced.
The ‘Diss Goes to Hollywood’ carnival will be movie themed, with characters such as Charlie Chaplin, James Bond, Elvis Presley and others set to appear.
The fun will get under way on June 11, with the parade setting off from Diss High School at 12.30pm and continuing in to the town and through to Diss Park.
Mayor Eric Taylor, who is a member of the town council carnival committee, said: “Following the huge success of last year’s carnival after a two-year break, I am optimistic for a record turnout again and the support of all involved on June 11.
“This annual event really brings the community together and is traditionally the biggest event of the year. I can’t wait to see ‘Diss Goes to Hollywood’.”
Last year’s event, which took place in July, saw the carnival return after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, with participants dressed up for a circus theme of ‘The Great-Diss Showman’, inspired by the hit musical The Greatest Showman.
In addition to the parade, last year also saw almost 40 shop windows decorated and awards handed out by the carnival judging panel, along with plenty of fun.
Held in July rather than June, so as not to clash with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Cllr Taylor said the 2022 event went brilliantly, thanks to a high turnout and some top-class acts.
The parade and party are free to be a part of, with local groups, schools and businesses invited to fill out an application form and get creative with their designs.
To join the parade, have a stall, sponsor the event or volunteer on the day, go online to www.diss.gov.uk/diss-carnival.
The deadline for applications is May 14.
