A well-used footpath by the main road in Diss was closed this week and will remain shut throughout next week after part of the pavement collapsed under the weight of a lorry.

The lorry had parked on the verge outside the fish and chip shop on Victoria Road last Thursday when it sunk into the path, requiring the vehicle to be pulled out mechanically.

Repair works are now ongoing by Anglian Water due to damage to the foul main running underneath. The work is expected to conclude next Thursday.

A Norfolk County Council spokesperson said: “We have investigated the situation and we are monitoring the impact it has on traffic.”
