Diss Express joins falcon plan
The Diss Express this week pledged its commitment to a scheme to fly a falcon around the town in a bid to help clear pigeons.
Dealey Bird Control has been visiting shops and business asking them to pay £1.75 a week each for the next 12 months to fly the falcon, called Fay, which will scare away the pigeons.
Pigeon mess is one of the top concerns of local businesses, which they fear could be putting off shoppers and tourists.
The Express is now one of 28 businesses to get on board, with another seven needed to get the scheme started.
The falcon is trained not to kill the pigeons, and is recognised as one of the most humane forms of bird control.
Once under way, it will see the falcon flown around the town three times a week for three weeks, twice a week for two weeks, and once a week, thereafter.
“It will work perfectly well but, if more than 35 people contribute, it will just work quicker and provide an even more robust deterrent,” said Mark Wright, from Dealey Bird Control.
Express chief reporter Chris Morris said: “We are happy to help and hope the scheme can get started as soon as possible.”
