Diss chippie giving away free meals on Christmas Day

A Diss chippie is spreading festive cheer by giving out free meals this Christmas.

Baileys Fish and Chips, in Shelfanger Road, is continuing with its tradition of offering free food to anybody in need on Christmas Day.

Last year, the business gifted more than 60 meals, and owner Cengiz Bolat said that the events of this year had given the give-away an added importance.

“We first had the idea about five years ago,” said the 45-year-old. “With what has happened this year, we need to give something back to the local community.

“There are people that need things on Christmas Day, so we are trying to remind people that you can share.

“We’re making sure everyone has a good meal – they can have anything on the menu.

“Every year, many people, including the homeless, come in. For anyone who can’t get out, like the elderly, we are happy to deliver to them.”
