Dick Whittington cast announced
In the panto version, Dick Whittington is persuaded by the sound of Bow Bells to turn back to London. There, he makes his fortune and becomes Lord Mayor three times.
There was a real-life Dick – more properly Richard Whittington – but he was a merchant and his wealth did not come from selling his cat to kill all the rats in a foreign land.
But, as they say, why let the truth stand in the way of a good story? Unless you work on a newspaper, of course.
However, we will go along with whatever version is told in this year’s Diss Corn Hall panto, which is set to be a real crowd-pleaser.
“After the brilliant success of our first ever pantomime last year, we’re delighted to announce the cast of Dick Whittington this December,” said programme manager Angela Sykes.
“We’re really looking forward to panto time again. There’s an incredible team spirit. I think it’s because being involved with something that gives so many people so much pleasure is the best feeling in the world.”
Matt Wainwright, who will play Dick, trained at the Arden School of Theatre and will be appearing in his third pantomime.
Emily Spampanato, who plays Alice Fitzwarren, is at the Performance Preparation Academy but has already appeared in several pantos.
Dick Whittington is due to run from December 20 to 30.
We will publish more cast news this week, along with details of an exclusive competition to win tickets.
