Devastating news as Digby found after 18-month search
A woman who has been searching for her missing dog for 18 months has revealed tragic news after he was found.
Digby, a black and white English springer spaniel, bolted from her Mill Road home in Banham on April 15, 2023, after being spooked by a loud noise while in the garden.
This prompted a county-wide search by owner Vicki Kerr and though there were a number of sightings and a £1,000 reward donated by a member, he remained unfound.
But on the Help Find DIGBY Facebook page, which has more than 5,000 followers on December 16, the owner revealed he had been found dead.
She said: “Digby was found unexpectedly on October 24, 2024, in a disused building on the site of Acorn Park school in Banham.
“I believe he was deceased possibly for four to six months. This was when the building was last entered.
“It seems he accidentally slipped into the building during a maintenance check and was unable to get out.
“I do not believe he had been there the full 18 months that he has been missing.”
Ms Kerr said she was dealing with the unanswered questions of the ‘amazing adventures’ that Digby may have had during that year prior to that, adding it was the only way she could find inner peace and not be haunted forever by wondering what happened.
A large number of people helped try to and track down Digby over the time that he was missing and the dog owner was very quick to thank them all in her statement.
“Digby was not just my dog he has won the hearts of so many of you in the local community and beyond,” she said.
“I have been through mental torture the last 18 months and if it was not for you angels showing me love and support in my darkest hours I am not sure I would be still standing today.
“It is thanks to everyone's generosity I have been able to bring Digby home where he belongs. I got to say my personal goodbye which gave me closure.
“He will never leave my side again. For that I will be forever grateful to all of you, his angels.”
