Dates for the closure of Diss Post Office in Market Place and its move to 35e Mere Street put back

The dates for the closure of a town’s Post Office at its current place and the opening of its new site have been put back.

Diss Post Office, currently found in Market Place where it has been for 70 years, will be moving to the former home of Octagon Craft Gallery and Coffee lounge at 35e Mere Street.

This follows the conclusion of a second public consultation after initial proposals to move the office to 5 Mere Street were deemed to be unsuitable.

The current branch was due to close on Friday, but will now remain open until August 2, at 5.30pm.

With the new Post Office site now set to open on August 6, at 1pm.

The new premises, which are currently undergoing a full refurbishment, will incorporate the Diss Post Office and a card and stationery store.

The current branch, which first opened in 1953, was on short-term contract necessitating the move into more permanent premises.
