Norfolk Police officers get on Norwich buses during crackdown on mobile phone use whilst driving
Officers have been on the buses this week around the city for a crackdown on people using their mobile phones whilst driving.
During Operation Spotlight, the roads policing team from Norfolk Constabulary boarding double decker buses around Norwich targeting those breaking the law.
Using a mobile phone whilst driving can have potentially devastating consequences and it is said you are four times more likely to be involved in a crash.
Officers were equipped with video recording equipment and used their unique vantage points to identify passing motorists who are committing offences whilst driving.
During the operation, 22 offences were detected with half of those being use of a mobile phone. Six drivers were also found to not be wearing a seatbelt.
Sergeant Adrian Hales, from the team said: “We have been fortunate enough again this year to work with First Bus, to use a dedicated double decker bus in order identify fatal four offences in Norwich.
“It was disappointing still to witness divers using mobile phones, with a number of other drivers not wearing seatbelts.
“On two occasions young children were identified not correctly restrained in vehicles.
A simple action of wearing a seatbelt, even on the shortest of journeys could save the life of you or a passenger in your vehicle, it is not worth the risk.”
