Buygone Vinyl opens at 8 Market Place in Diss
After 35 years trading in Australia, a husband and wife team have brought their record shop to Diss.
Lifelong music collectors Bev and Ian Talmadge, of Attleborough, opened Buygone Vinyl at 8 Market Place on Tuesday.
Originally based near Melbourne, they have been trading online since they moved back to Britain three years ago.
On offer is everything a music enthusiast could want, including rare records, LPs, singles, memorabilia and more.
However, taking pride of place in their collection were thousands of Australian pressed vinyls.
Its central location between Norfolk and Suffolk presented a perfect opportunity, they said.
Bev said the pair were stressed but eager to get going.
She said: “We never stopped trading, having brought a massive amount of stock back with us.
“We did consider setting up in Norwich but then this place came up, which was superb.
“We have a sizeable collection of rare and obscure items, so it will be important for us to market ourselves to collectors within a 25 mile radius. People are willing to travel for vinyls, so our location is a big bonus.
“We will be open full time. As long as the door is open, we will be here and people will be free to browse.”
In addition to Australia, the couple do a lot of shipping to the US, Europe and China.
Items in their collection included lots of The Smiths and Morrissey records, rare Rolling Stones presses and Beatles box sets.
Bev said the pair would frequently shuffle stock to keep the shopping experience fresh and will welcome wish lists from customers.
Ian hoped its Australian prints would be big sellers with British collectors.
“People can come in and see things they may not have thought of shopping online, such as overseas titles, which you would have to pay heavy postage prices form which offers space for them to buy more.
“Hopefully we can provide a space for the community, where people can come in, chat about what they like, listen to music
“We have extremely high standards for records, we do not sell anything that is scratched or damaged.”
