Coronavirus Daily: PM to take briefing tonight on lockdown progress

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to go before the cameras tonight to update the UK on the progress of lockdown measures.

Though it is believed he will not provide details of when restrictions will change, he will launch a new alert system to track the virus.

It will be on a data-driven scale of one to five to ranking its threat level and only apply to England at the moment.

Also a new slogan 'Stay alert, control the virus, save lives' will also be unveiled.

This came after figures from Public Health England yesterday, which include counts of all deaths where a positive test for COVID-19 has been confirmed, showing there had been 346 deaths in the last reported 24-hour.

Norfolk has reported a rise of 29 positive cases in the period, making a total of 1,864 so far, with Suffolk seeing another 21 cases, taking its total so far to 1,256.

The UK's total daily confirmed count was 3,896, with the total number of laboratory confirmed cases of the virus in the UK now at 215,260.
