Coronavirus Daily: Health Secretary announces coronavirus testing expansion

Children aged five and over who have symptoms can now be tested for coronavirus, announced Health Secretary Matt Hancock in Parliament yesterday.

Also loss of taste or smell was added to the list of Covid-19 symptoms, along with a fever and a new persistent cough.

On testing, he said: "Every day we are creating more capacity and that means more people can be tested, and the virus has fewer places to hide."

Yesterday's figures from Public Health England showed Norfolk's confirmed positive cases over the previous 24-hour period had risen by 22, with a total so far of 2,030 and Suffolk had only reporting 12 cases, taking its total to 1,367.

The UK reported 160 deaths in the reporting period, 10 fewer than the day before.

The daily UK figures for confirmed cases was 2,684 compared to 3,534 from the previous day's report, and the UK total of laboratory confirmed cases now stands at 246,406.
