Coronavirus daily: Education minister says 'no decision' on schools reopening as Norfolk passes 900 confirmed cases




Despite reports in the national papers this morning about schools reopening within weeks, the Education Secretary Gavin Williamson took to Twitter today to reassure the public.

He tweeted: "No decision has been made on when we will reopen schools.

"I can reassure schools and parents that they will only reopen when the scientific advice indicates it is the right time to do so."

Public Health England figures from yesterday show that the UK's laboratory confirmed cases of coronavirus so far have now reached 114,217.

Norfolk reported positive cases have risen by 90 to 932 in the previous 24-hour period, with Suffolk seeing a small rise of 55 cases to 600.

The amount of daily positive cases in the UK for the period had seen a slight drop from 5,599 to 5,526.

England has now had 87,022 reported cases in total so far, Scotland has had 7,820, Wales with 6,936 and Northern Ireland with 2,486.

Daily deaths in hospitals was reported at 888 cases and the total number of deaths in hospitals is now up to 15,464.
