Consultation launched for 179-home development off Shelfanger Road and Heywood Road in Diss

A public consultation into plans to build 179 homes in Diss, while extending the town’s cemetery, will be held next week.

Norfolk Homes, which was granted outline planning permission for the site off Shelfanger Road and Heywood Road last year, will be releasing more information on the project on Friday.

The event will be held in the town council chamber in The Corn Hall in St Nicholas Street, between 3pm and 7pm.

The developer says the event will give the community an opportunity to review, comment and influence the ongoing design process, pending the submission of a more detailed planning application, which will go before South Norfolk Council later this year.

The authority approved the development, with conditions, on January 11.

A spokesman for Norfolk Homes said: “People’s views are important and will be fully considered before plans are advanced, finalised and submitted.

“We encourage residents to leave us feedback on the proposals after they have viewed the draft plans at the exhibition.”

During the application process there were more than 40 objections on the council’s planning portal.

One of the objectors said: “This development will create accidents, enormous congestion and a massive reduction in living standards due to the massive inability to access vital services.”
