The Harling Parish Awards 2025 were held this month at Old School Hall, East Harling, and attended by more than 70 people
Community heroes have been rewarded for their inspirational efforts at an annual ceremony.
The Harling Parish Awards 2025 were held this month at Old School Hall, East Harling, and attended by more than 70 people.
The evening honoured individuals for their outstanding contributions to village life - whether through acts of courage and resilience, years of voluntary service, fundraising, supporting others through difficult times, or helping to enhance our shared spaces and community spirit.
It was a proud moment in Harling’s history, with award recipients surrounded by family and friends for a heartfelt and memorable evening.
The winners, chosen by a committee of past recipients and voted for by the residents, were:
* Graham Jubb – Freedom of the Parish
Graham was rewarded for his 48 years involvement to East Harling Football club, for whom he held various positions and also fund-raised. He is president of the Anglian Combination Football League, was on the Harling Recreation Users Committee, chairman of the Youth Centre, and involved in many village trusts.
* David Boggia – Freedom of the Parish
David was a ‘constant’ in the village for many years and a prominent business owner. He was also a retained fireman for 35 years, on the parish council for 25 years.
* Archie and Monty Shaen-Carter – Young Persons Award
Archie is a brave strong, resilient boy who received the award with brother Monty. in 2023, Archie, then 7, was diagnosed with brain tumour, hydrocephalus and papilledema, and has undergone many surgeries. Brother Monty meanwhile has shown equal strength supporting his brother.
* Kate Filby – Chairman’s Special Award
Kate is the clerk and financial officer for the council, and was recognised for going far beyond her duties, from her involvement in the community garden to the weekly community hub.
