Christine set to brave the chill for charity
A businesswoman is preparing to take on freezing temperatures when she takes the plunge for charity.
Christine Howard, of Howard Nurseries in Wortham – one of the largest wholesale perennial specialists in the country – is taking on the Conquer the Cold challenge.
It will see the managing director endure the icy temperatures of Abbey Hall’s natural pond in Eye for three minutes.
Taking place today and across the weekend, the event will raise money for The Blossom Charity, which helps people facing challenges and financial hardship in East Anglia.
Talking about her preparation, the 42 year-old said: “I am lucky. We have two reservoirs up here, which I have found to be colder than having a shower.
“I have been going down every weekday and having a paddle. I did manage to get my shoulder under the water once this week.”
A series of events will see people take on a three-minute cold challenge – all inspired by the BBC series Freeze the Fear.
An instructor will be on hand to guide participants through what to expect, before they then take the plunge.
Miss Howard said: “I like a challenge. I watched the BBC show and heard them say about the mental benefits it has on stress and anxiety. As a business owner, that is something I can relate to.
“So I see this as learning a new mental skill to have in my toolbox, as well as raising money for a good cause. There are some amazing opportunities out there if you are happy to go and grab them.”
