RoughCast Theatre prepare to perform Pygmalion at Laxfield, Diss and Wingfield Barns

A touring theatre company is returning to the area this month, this time with a George Bernard Shaw classic.

RoughCast Theatre will be bringing Pygmalion to stages, including The Corn Hall in Diss, Wingfield Barns and Laxfield Village Hall.

The story is of Eliza Doolittle, a poor flower seller, who is taken under the wing of Professor Henry Higgins, a linguistic expert.

He has made a bet that within six months he can transform the scruffy, Cockney girl into a proper lady and pass her off as a duchess.

As Eliza undergoes a gruelling and often humiliating process of education, she begins to challenge Higgins’ assumptions about class and gender and, in doing so, discovers her own strength and place in society.

The funny and moving story was later transformed into the musical hit, My Fair Lady.
