Hartismere Place care home in Eye takes trip down memory lane as part of Alzheimer's Society initiative
Care home residents in Eye took a trip down memory lane when they were treated to a 1950s-themed celebration, as part of a new dementia-friendly initiative.
Hartismere Place in Castleton Way set up a ‘50s-style diner, complete with live entertainment from the facility’s lifestyle team, who performed songs and dances from the era.
The event was organised in support of the Alzheimer’s Society’s ongoing Flashback scheme, through which it is encouraging people to help those with dementia to reminisce about the past.
Hartismere Place manager Abhilash Gopi said: “We all had an absolute blast at our 50s-themed party, and it was clear that everyone really enjoyed stepping back in time to experience the decade of rock ‘n’ roll.
“Living with dementia can be challenging, but by holding get-togethers like the Alzheimer’s Society’s Flashback event, we can raise awareness and offer all the help and support people need.
“The whole team worked hard to organise the event, and I’m delighted to say it was a huge success. A big thank you to everyone who attended.”
