Pam Allen-Jones, Hartismere Place in Eye resident, dusts off her dancing shoes to watch LTS Dance School show

A former ballerina celebrated her love of dance by enjoying a show just for her.

Pam Allen-Jones was given the chance to spend a morning with dancers from LTS Dance School, bringing back fond memories of her pirouetting days.

The now 76-year-old started at a ballet school in Romford, aged seven, and then went on to tap dance with her sister, Shirley.

In 1985, she performed with Essex Dance Theatre – one of her last forays into the pastime.

She said: “I really miss not dancing, and I really looked forward to going back.”

On the day, dancers put on a performance, featuring impressive choreography.

Ms Allen-Jones also took part in a Silver Swans class led by Lily Turner Smith, a member of the Royal Academy of Dance.

The classes are specifically designed for older people to help improve mobility, posture, co-ordination and energy levels.

The former ballerina, a resident at Hartismere Place in Castleton Way, Eye, loved it so much that she will now be attending a class every month.

The morning was part of the home’s Wishing Tree initiative, which encourages people to put forward suggestions for future activities, allowing them to reconnect with their younger years, or to try something completely new.

Claire Martin, the home’s manager, said: “We had an amazing time watching Pam join in with the dancers from LTS Dance School.

“We would like to say a big thank you to them and we look forward to seeing Pam back on stage very soon.”
