The project manager of the Waveney Foodbank is appealing for a volunteer to help at their warehouse, based at the Brome Industrial Estate.
The charity, which provides emergency food and support to local people and is backed by the Trussel Trust, is seeking somebody to take on the role of deputy warehouse manager.
There are people who are desperate and can’t eat and we think that is a very bad situation to be in, and we want to help them
The warehouse is open from 9.30am to 12.30pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and the deputy manager’s position would include stock control, staff management, and the weighing of food in and out of the site.
Graham Reardon, project manager, told the Diss Express about one in three of the population were an unexpected bill away from not being able to afford to eat.
“We are helping people in need,” he said. “There are people who are desperate and can’t eat and we think that is a very bad situation to be in, and we want to help them.
“Our work-rate is constantly increasing and we are shifting about a tonne of food a month for people who have not got enough food to eat.
“We are doing what we can. It is great to be in this position of having such a large amount of public support, the foodbank is very well thought of charity.”
