Hemstock's Jewellers puts together charity hamper for Mind charity ahead of Diss Carnival

High street shops across Diss have pulled together to produce a charity hamper, which will be raffled off this summer.

A jewellery set, barbecue, gym membership and a meal for five are among the items on offer for lucky winners ahead of the draw at Diss Carnival – in an effort to raise money for Mind, the mental health charity.

The raffle was organised by Hemstock’s Jewellers, in Mere Street, and tickets will be sold at £1 a piece from all participating shops.

Lauren Collins, sales assistant at Hemstock’s, explained how the choice of charity was in response to the past two years of successive lockdowns.

“We were looking at what we could do as a community after lockdown,” said the 34-year-old.

“Everyone has struggled with being restricted at home, and mental health has been spoken about a lot, so we thought what better than to do something in partnership with Mind.”

In total, more than 20 businesses in the town have contributed to the hamper, with the accumulated price of all the prizes reaching well into the thousands.

“We had a good response and people have been very generous,” added Mrs Collins.

“At the moment, there’s a few closed shops around, so we wanted to show that Diss still has a lot to offer.”

The draw will take place at Diss Carnival, which is set to return to the town on Sunday, July 3, after a two-year enforced hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Anyone wanting to buy a ticket can do so at the counter of any of the participating stores, or by calling Hemstock’s directly on 01379 642497.
