Boy band experiment makes Mellis debut
Musicians from each corner of the United Kingdom have formed a boy band — a social media experiment which is the brainchild of a young Yaxley music promoter.
Distraction — a pop/RnB group featuring Ryan McCreadie from Glasgow, Will Homewood from Oxford, John Buckley from Cornwall and Lewis Maxwell from Liverpool — were whittled down from hundreds of applicants after James Bloomfield, 21, used Twitter and Facebook to source musicians.
The quartet, all between the ages of 15 and 18, met for the first time on Saturday, and made their debut in the Railway Tavern in Mellis last night.
Mr Bloomfield said the idea initially stemmed from a desire to scout for talent online.
“The aim is for it to be full time for all band members,” he told the Diss Express. “It is long term.
“The artists we have got are very flexible.
“What they had previously done, whether they had a big following before the band, that was not taken into account. It was their musical talent.
“The gig was incredible. The venue was really full up and lots of people singing and clapping along.”
Mr Bloomfield added Distraction would have stints in various locations across the country, including their home areas, in a bid to build a reputation.
