Romance novel award may beckon for Diss bookshop

With a track record for supporting and promoting romantic novelists, a book shop is receiving its own appreciation, having been named as a finalist for the Romantic Bookseller of the Year award.

The Romantic Novelists’ Association (RNA) named Diss Publishing Book Shop as one of two finalists for the award, which recognises the hard work and talent of any person, group or organisation which has championed romantic fiction.

Shop manager Birgitte Mager said: “We are absolutely delighted. We have some really well know romance authors we work with, such as Jenni Keer, Heidi Swain and Rosie Hendry, who formed the Suffolk and Norfolk romantic writers group together.

“It’s so important to support our talented local authors and to give them a platform, as well as help promote them and sell their books.

“Our staff are also really knowledgeable about the romance genre and its authors and it would be a super accolade for them if we were to win, because we always hope people will notice that we are doing our very best.

“It’s a popular genre and more important now than ever with so many negative things going on in the world. We need all the romance and love we can get.”

RNA industry awards organiser Laura James, said: “The passion for romantic fiction remains. It grows stronger by the letter; by the chapter; by each book.

“Awards are our way of thanking and celebrating the hard-working industry professionals. Congratulations to all our finalists.”

The winner will be announced in London on November 13.
