Bonkers Conkers competition at The Kings Head in North Lopham proves a smash hit
Traditional games of conkers were on the menu when a village pub pitted young and old against each other.
Bonkers Conkers took place at The Kings Head in North Lopham on October 19, where players went head-to-head to be crowned champion.
Martin and Louise Griffiths, who have been landlord and landlady of pub for 16 months, said they were only too happy to continue the tradition.
Mrs Griffiths said: “When we first took over, we were told they have always had a conker competition here and we just thought we would make it our own, so we called it Bonkers Conkers.
“Everyone loved it last year so we have done it again, in a knockout format, and the adults love it as much as the children do. It was great fun.”
The competition had men’s, women’s and children’s sections, with Logan Butcher coming out on top in the latter.
Each of the conker champions were given specially made Bonkers Conkers Kings Head rosettes.
“We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part and to those that came to support and cheer on each and every round,” said Mrs Griffiths.
“We would also like to say a special thanks to Fay Ravenhill, who has organised and run Bonkers Conkers since we started it.”
The fun does not stop as, today, the pub will be hosting a pumpkin carving competition.
People are invited to take along their homemade creations for judging in the under nines, under 15s and adult categories.
