Bird Flu: Suffolk and Norfolk made subject of regional prevention zone after spike of cases

Suffolk and Norfolk have been made the subject of a regional prevention zone after a spike in bird flu cases in the area.

Defra revealed the new measures yesterday after the confirmation of the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) at three farms in Watton and Dereham areas.

This means it is a legal requirement for all bird keepers in the county to follow strict biosecurity measures to help protect their animals.

However, it does not mean people have to house their birds.

It is hoped the new measures will mitigate the risk of further outbreaks of the disease.

All poultry at the commercial sites were humanely culled.

A similar zone has been enacted in Yorkshire.
