Banham Zoo launches naming contest for 100th penguin chick

Banham Zoo have launched a special ‘Name the Penguin’ competition in celebration of the birth of the 100th hatchling from one African penguin in the expanding group.

The contest is calling for people to submit suggestions for what to name this latest penguin hatcling, with the winning entrant getting to spend a day meeting and feeding the penguins at the zoo’s reserve.

This announcement follows the recent news that the establishment remains on course with its preparations for a major £50,000 refurbishment to the penguin enclosure, which currently houses 29 penguins.

The zoo has been gathering funds for the past two years for this project after success with its penguin breeding program, and recently held a fundraising event on Saturday, June 28.

Work on the redesigned enclosure, which will feature a raised boardwalk for visitors, is expected to begin this autumn and be completed some time during spring 2015.

To enter the penguin naming competition, submit a suggestion via the zoo’s Facebook or Twitter pages, or post it to Name the Penguin, Banham Zoo, The Grove, Banham, Norfolk, NR16 2HE
