Bakers raise the bar as King’s Head in North Lopham plays host to mince pie bake-off
A village pub hosted a festive bake-off to find out who makes the best mince pies.
The King’s Head in North Lopham invited people of all ages and all baking abilities to compete to be crowned star baker.
Judges Nicki Bennett and Martin Griffiths tasted the 13 entries before revealing their results.
Louise Griffiths, who with her husband Martin have been in charge of the pub for around 18 months, said: “It was a very successful bake-off with some exceptional entries.
“Our winner was 13-year-old Shaney. He baked all the filling and puff pastry from scratch and they were delicious.
“Second place went to Pat, who was in total shock that she placed, and third place went to 14-year-old Nancy whose pie filling wowed the judges.”
As well as the competition, the pub had its lights switch-on, a pizza food truck and carols around the Christmas tree, sung by Rona Reeder from Lime Tree Farm’s Elf Village.
The pub is also organising a Santa’s Grotto on December 22 when the man himself will be setting off on his sleigh from the village hall at 6pm and arriving at the King’s Head at 6.45pm.
