Bacton Community Middle School set for a final firework farewell
Pupils and teachers of past and present are being called to celebrate the history of Bacton Community Middle School, ahead of its closure this month.
Starting on Saturday, July 11 at 6pm at the Wysterstone Road-based school, a farewell fireworks display will conclude the event at approximately 10pm.
The event will give those who have passed through the school the chance to share their memories, while there will also be two live bands, comprising of ex-students, music, licensed bar, and hot food available to purchase. Organiser Gareth Mutimer, 34, a Bacton resident who spent four years at the school from 1993, said it had fallen victim to Suffolk County Council’s shift from three to two-tier education.
“When the council announced it all people, residents and parents were up in arms, and they started a petition to save the middle school,” he said.
“We set up a group on Facebook that was shared with about 8,000 people and has 800 members, and it is nice to look at the comments and see people say it was a very special place.
“It will just be nice to catch up with everyone. Everyone you talk to, the majority of people look back and think of all the good times they have had there.
“It played such an important part in peoples’ lives.”
A limited number of tickets, priced at £5 per person, are available by visiting www.theeventshop.co.uk, or by calling 01449 781329.
