Helen from Needham was in for a big surprise after losing weight
Mum Helen Walker gave birth to two children after being told it would be extremely unlikely she would ever conceive again – unless she lost weight.
Helen, 39, from Needham, was given the devastating news after visiting her doctor in 2014.
“We’d been trying for a year after the birth of our first son Elliot in 2012 without any luck,” said Helen, an ambulance crew member.
“The consultant discovered a huge cyst on my ovary, which meant my hormone levels were at rock bottom.
“He said it would be extremely unlikely I would ever conceive again, without medical help.”
After Elliot was born, Helen had also piled on the pounds during shift work for her job with the East of England Ambulance Service.
“I put on three stone over two years,” said Helen.
“I was eating the wrong kinds of food, including snacks such as Pringles, Haribos, four or five chocolate bars, and a meal deal on one night shift alone.
“The doctor said I wouldn’t be eligible for any fertility help unless I lost at least two stone.”
Helen joined the Eye Slimming World group and weighed in at 16st 13lbs, a dress size 22, in October 2014. She lost one-and-a-half stone in the first month, and a further two stone over the next year.
“I also found out I was pregnant in the same week I reached my target weight, and was over the moon,” she said.
Son Felix was born in June 2016.
“All the weight pretty much went back on so I started my journey again,” said Helen.
“I managed to lose all my baby weight and, to our surprise, in February 2017, I discovered I was pregnant again. Charlotte was totally unplanned and was born that October. She celebrated her birthday last week.”
Helen has now lost a total of four stone since first being told she would have difficulty conceiving again, without help to boost her hormones.
“I’m also in training for a 10km run,” added Helen.
Eye Slimming World groups meets at the town hall every Thursday.
