Greggs in Diss has closed indefinitely over coronavirus fears
The Greggs branch in Diss has closed its doors indefinitely, joining a long list of food outlets that have shut up shop in light of the ongoing coronavirus epidemic.
The restaurant, in Mere Street, closed at 2pm this afternoon, joining 2,050 others around the country, and management has not specified when they plan to reopen.
Greggs CEO Roger Whiteside said in a public statement yesterday: "Whilst our shops will be temporarily closed, our dedication to our communities won’t stop.
"We’ll continue to provide support to our local communities by distributing any remaining unsold food and offering support for those in hardship through the Greggs Foundation.
"To our customers, thank you for your ongoing support – we know these are difficult and unsettling times, and through our community work we hope to be able to continue serving you, and your friends and families in some way."
The bakery chain follows Costa Coffee as the latest major food outlet in Mere Street to close its doors.
The coffee shop, which only weeks ago undertook a £100,000 refurbishment, stopped serving customers at 5pm yesterday (March 23) evening.
