Diss shop opens its doors, bringing gifts, crafts and decor to Mere Street
A new business has thrown open its doors to the public, offering an intriguing range of gifts and home decor items.
Mollies At The Mere, which opened in Mere Street in Diss on Thursday, is the culmination of a dream that has been held by shop owner Karen Sinclair for years.
The 54-year-old said: “I’ve always wanted my own shop but never had the opportunity to own one.
“After managing the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals for nine years and being made redundant, I came to a crossroads and thought it was a case of now or never.
“I love Diss and all that it stands for, having worked here for nearly a decade, and Icouldn’t bear to leave. I’d always thought as I looked over at the empty space where Mere Moments used to be that it was a prime retail location within the town centre.
“It’s a very quaint, Victorian property so it lends itself very well to what I had in mind.”
Mrs Sinclair, who lives in Botesdale, added: “Our homes have been our castles these last few months, so it’s an area we can focus on as a business.
“Its always nice to enjoy the old fashioned shopping experience where you wander around town, have a coffee and a bite to eat and see some lovely, original gifts on sale.”
The shop offers many gift ideas, but also specialises in decoupage and solid wooden items which are handmade. Christmas stock will be arriving soon.
Mrs Sinclair said: “It’s been brilliant so far – lots of people have been in to purchase something and we’ve had really good feedback.
“We will add more and more as the weeks go on, including our Christmas range, so there are lots of exciting items to come.”
Mollies At The Mere is in the process of building a website to help boost the business and spread the word. Once complete, it can be found at www.molliesatthemere.co.uk.
It is open Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 5.30pm.
