Sarah says hard work and listening is the secret to 25 years of salon success
Having celebrated 25 years in business, nothing has come close to cutting short Sarah Waddell's passion for hairdressing.
Opening on July 14, 1993, Sarah's Hair Design in Eye was set up by Miss Waddell when she was 21-years-old.
Starting with only herself and fellow stylist Sue Bristow, the salon now boasts a team of 10 staff.
"The secret to being a good hairdresser is listening to what your clients want and also plenty of hard work," said 46-year-old Miss Waddell, from Wingfield.
"Some of our customers have been coming since we opened."
Born in Eye and originally living above the salon, Miss Waddell had no fears about starting her own business at such a young age.
Her partner, Paul Ling, was tasked with renovating the building and fitting out the salon.
"It wasn't scary at all when I set out," she admitted.
"When you are young, you think you're invincible. I had always wanted my own salon and we were busy from day one. We've never hit bad times, we've always been well-supported by regular clientele."
Twenty-five years later, Miss Waddell's love of hairdressing is very much alive and well.
"I still love my job and I like exploring new styles and products," she said. "I always aim to please my clients."
Miss Waddell celebrated the salon's silver anniversary with her fellow stylists over a glass of bubbly earlier this month.
She said: " I want to give a massive thank you to my clients for all of their support over the years. I look forward to continuing to do their hair for many years to come.
"Thanks also to my amazing team who work hard and always do a great job."
