I don’t know where Tim Bornett got the idea that ‘the impression is often repeated that the Burston School dispute was a strike by employees against their employer’ (Letters, September 11).

In true WI spirit the Diss WI set off for Hunstanton for a beach party on what looked to be a damp, miserable day, but it was not going to stop the WI celebrating 100 years of WI.

My uncle, Flight Sergeant Haroll Mock died on February 1 1945 along with three other aircrew when their Halifax bomber suffered mechanical failure and crashed returning from a night raid over Germany.

Readers of the Diss Express may recall I invited our MPs to enlighten us as to their views on the subject of ritual slaughter and its labelling (Letters, July 24).

Rev John Curtis (Letters, August 2) misses the point.

The only problem with the Vinces Road-Victoria Road junction is the continuous stream of traffic leaving Diss.

For the past five years, we have been lobbying the local council to do something about the speeding traffic along Stanley Road in Diss.

I was amazed when I realised that the road works currently being undertaken on Victoria Road were to provide a pedestrian crossing some 50 yards from the controlled crossing at the Mere Street junction.

May I, on behalf of numerous ‘children of the Fifties/Sixties’ send a message of congratulation, albeit a little belatedly, to Mr and Mrs Alf and Janet Chambers.

Thank you to all the people who attended the Keeping History Alive exhibition to promote the launch of Quatrefoil’s new book – A Rural Education, by Sarah Doig, the 11th book in the local history series. Sarah also gave two talks on schools during the day.

I believe most people in Eye would prefer not to have a large housing estate imposed upon them, such as that proposed for Eye Airfield but what alternatives are there given the impending housing crisis in London and other cities.

Following your article (Halal slaughtering facility to set up in Eye factory, June 6) I would like to ask why the halal method of slaughter is allowed in our country?

At Diss Museum we are gathering ghostly anecdotes from the town.

We would like to express our appreciation to the Wortham and Burgate Parish Council for their hard work and determination regarding the improvements to the drive way and parking spaces leading to Wortham Post Office, it looks so much more attractive than the muddy, pot-holed track we were using before and not only prevents damage to our vehicles but it is easier for pedestrians to access these valued local amenities.

Interesting, that two articles in your March 6 issue appear to be connected.

As I left Diss surgery car park the other week, I was approached by a lady who asked if I lived in the town and if there was any where she could get lunch and could overlook the “lake”.

Being a resident of Farnish House in Botesdale, in a lovely flat, with good neighbours and a helpful scheme manager, I am in a good position to look after myself most of the time.

The Little Ouse Headwaters Project is a local conservation group that has attained much regional and national recognition for its work.

Finally, a politician talks sense, Dan Poulter’s appraisal of both the unsuitability of Eye farmland for a second power station and public objections to the proposal, echo the sentiments of many local people (MP’s power station fears, January 16).

Norfolk County Council has just completed its public consultation process regarding a ‘Have Your Say’ on how cuts and savings can be made.
