Investigating the flora and fauna of the Mellis fields!

Year 5 spent the day investigating the fascinating Knopper Wasp! This amazing creature lays its eggs in the acorns of oak trees, and the larva (baby wasp) changes the acorn into a home and larder for itself! We discovered hundreds of these 'knopper galls' under one of our oak trees, and decided to find out all about their life cycle. We finished the day with a pop-up nature exhibition to their parents!

Enterprise Week - the last Hurrah for our Sixers!

For their final week at Mellis School, our Year 6s have been working on their Enterprise Week! They started with a £5 loan and by running their own business they aimed to make a profit and donate to a charity they had researched and then selected. The children made bracelets, baked cookies and cakes, set up games, sold lemonade, created drawings to sell, had a lucky dip and worked on other creative projects before setting up their stalls and inviting the children and parents of the School.

They raised over £365 for their different charities on Friday! Well done them!

One Last Trip for our Year 6s!

A final and grand trip out for our Year 6s, with beach games, fish and chips overlooking the sea, crazy gold and of course the exhiliration of the Hippodrome Circus! A just reward for a hard year's graft and effort!

    All the World's at Stage!

Mellis School puts a high value on its plays for every year group across the school year, and it being summer this means the Year 3/4 and the Year 5/6 plays - 'A Hint of Snow White' and the 'School of Pop' respectively! As ever, a great team effort from colleagues, parents and of course the pupils themselves who belted out their songs and lines with huge enthusiasm and energy!

The MSPA Summer Fete - £2000 raised!

We were blessed both with idyllic weather and the fantastic efforts of the Mellis School Parents' Association, who pulled together a fantastic fete for all concerned - and raised £2000 for the School in the process! A huge thanks to all the support from them and the whole school community!
