A new contemporary opera with a cast of young people from the region will be performed at Snape Maltings Concert Hall on February 21, 22 and 24.
Rehearsals are under way for the production by Aldeburgh Music. Called Tarantula In Petrol Blue, it deals with modern-day issues facing youngsters, such as street gangs, violence and love. The project has been supported by The Geoffrey C Hughes Charitable Trust.
The music has been written by Aldeburgh alumna Anna Meredith with words by award-winning novelist and playwright Philip Ridley. Meredith's music for Tarantula in Petrol Blue draws from the worlds of pop and electronic music, as well as her classical roots.
Bijan Sheibani, an award-winning director and recent graduate of Aldeburgh's Jerwood Opera Writing Programme, will direct the performances while Jessica Cottis will conduct the musicians.
Tarantula In Petrol Blue is suitable for those aged 13 and over. Tickets cost 10 for adults and 5 for under 27s. To book, call the box office, 01728 687110.
