The dry weather ensured the large crowds, who enjoyed a selection of music, dance and other entertainment.

May Princess Georgia Riches led the procession with her attendants Stevie and Megan Squirrel and Laura Dean.

The girls were also joined by St Mary's Church May Queen Rhian Bamford and the Haughley Hoofers.

Music was provided by the Ipswich Caribbean Steel Youth Band and The Jammers and pupils from the village primary school gave a cheerleading display.

There was a dog show, craft show, children's entertainer and dancing from the East Suffolk Morris Men.

The event was organised by Mendlesham Community Council and money raised will be put back into the village.

"Everything went brilliantly," said Sandra Exley, who helps organise the event.

"The children really enjoyed their entertainer and all the adults were pleased with what we had on offer."
