With only just over two weeks to go, people are being asked to get involved with the preparations for the Taste Of Diss food festival.
The event will be launched on July 12 at Diss Farmers' Market, where there will be a children's fancy dress parade, with a free goody bag for every child who comes dressed as a fruit or vegetable.
The launch will also include a balloon race, street theatre, music, tastings and a ceremonial opening by the mayor and deputy mayor of Diss.
On July 13, there will be a family picnic on Fair Green, with children's entertainment from Bazza Bizarre, a playspace for toddlers and a drinks and cake stall.
People are invited to take along their own picnics – using local food, where possible, to fit in with the festival's theme.
Diss Express readers are also being asked to take part in the festival by nominating their favourite local banger for the title of Waveney Sausage 2008.
To qualify for entry, the sausage must be made locally, but can be meat, fish or vegetarian.
Danny Browne, from Diss butchers D A Browne & Son, said: "We sell a lot of sausages throughout the year, so we know that the people of Diss like their bangers.
"It's not only pork either – duck, venison, beef and lamb are all in demand."
The winning sausage will be chosen by a public vote following a tasting night hosted by the Burston Crown.
People will be able to taste the sausages nominated by Diss Express readers and choose their favourite.
The winning butcher or restaurant will then be presented with a certificate, marking that their produce has been given the title of Waveney Sausage 2008.
Anyone wanting to nominate their favourite sausages should write down the details and hand them in with their name and telephone number to Fredericks Fine Foods in Norfolk House Yard or email suzannekayne@yahoo.co.uk
The grand tasting and voting night will take place on July 16, 6pm, at the
Burston Crown.
The results will be announced at Diss Corn Hall on July 19 as part of the
Taste Of Diss cookery contest.
