For its last day, the Taste Of Diss festival is joining forces with South Norfolk community music group SN Sounds for a feast of both food and live bands.

Forty musicians in ten bands, and a sound crew of two or three will perform at Diss Park pavilion from 11.30am to 6pm as part of their Live and Gigging initiative.

The link up was the brainchild of SN Sounds member Jon Chambers, who is involved with Cittaslow Diss and has worked on the town's carnival committee.

He thought it would be a good idea to link up with the food festival.

The bands involved offer something for everyone, playing blues, rock, funk, acoustic and indie music.

In keeping with the self-supporting tradition of SN Sounds, some of the members not performing will be in the audience dancing and singing to create a happy atmosphere.

Norfolk County Council's southern area youth team member Jo Bowley, who supports the project, said: "The members are really supportive of each other.

"They run the project so they will set up the equipment on the day and then pack it all down at the end.

She said she hoped it would be a fun concert for the family and added: "People who might think young people are destructive and are a nuisance will find that these youngsters can provide great entertainment for the community."

According to Mrs Bowley, the bands get excited about the challenge of performing open air gigs: "It can be quite scary for them but the reason we do it is to give them a rounded performing experience."

SN Sounds is into its tenth year of existence and caters for young people aged 13 to 25.

SN Sounds are set to continue their live acoustic evenings once a month on Thursdays at the Angel Café, Fair Green, in Diss in September.
