Sudbury Rugby Club ran in 11 tries as they thrashed Campion 67-19 to move a step closer to securing a play-off spot at the end of the season.

Harry Maile finished with four tries as Graham Richards’ men preserved their five point lead over third place Diss in London League Division Two North East.

Ethan Wright, Henry Cowling, Shaun Smith, Jake Thurlow and Charles Jackson were also among the try scorers at Whittome Field, while Tom Summers scored six conversions to help Sudbury to a comfortable home win.

Diss also eased to a heavy win on home turf with a 60-10 triumph over Basildon, but Sudbury are firmly in the driving seat to finish in second place.

Elsewhere, Bury St Edmunds scored a last minute try to earn two bonus points but it could not prevent them from suffering their first defeat in five, as Redingensians ran out 31-28 winners.

In London League Division Three North East, Stowmarket edged past Southwold 24-20, while there were wins for Newmarket, Thetford and Ely in Greene King Eastern Counties League Division One at the weekend.
