Dave Smith has stressed the need for a strong pre-season at Diss RFC if they are to be successful in London League Division Two North East next season
And ahead of his first training session as the team’s boss, Smith has highlighted the importance of the next few months at Mackenders.
“We need to lay down strong foundations for a successful season now to ensure we get the best possible start in these opening matches,” he said.
“Every year the league becomes even more competitive and a good start to the season is imperative.
“I want to ensure summer training is fully focused on the challenges ahead and making Diss the best prepared club in the league.”
Diss finished last season in third place, 10 points behind play-off winners Sudbury and a further eight points adrift of champions Saffron Walden.
Smith’s men begin their 2016-17 campaign with trips to Rochford Hundred (September 10) and Ipswich (September 17), before hosting local rivals Holt for their first home game on September 24.
“We have a very good pool of senior players at Diss,” Smith said. “Our juniors are also excelling in nurturing raw talent into players of tomorrow.
“We have all the ingredients for a very successful season ahead if we put in the hard work now.”
